Centennial Gateway Renders!

Across the street from Levi's Stadium is going to be one of the most epic development projects in the history of the Bay Area. Below are a couple recent renders of Phase 1 of that project called Centennial Gateway. This will include 120,000 SQFT of retail, 600,000 SQFT of office, a boutique hotel, and a plaza. This could be ready as soon as 2016 (but likely later). The crazy thing is, this isn't even the big project that is being planned for the area.

Retail West is leading the retail strategy for the project and they are calling this "more contemporary, lively, and modern than anything the Bay Area has ever seen." Big words--will be very interesting to see how this turns out.

On a separate note, I had the chance to dine at the new Michael Mina restaurant in the stadium, Bourbon Steak, and it was phenomenal. I'll have a full review next week.

  1. San Jose needs to embrace this development.

  2. It's a shame Santa Clara is putting this up, along with decent amounts of office space, while we in San Jose got goaded into building thousands of housing for the residents that will be spending their time in Santa Clara adding to their sales tax :(

I do love the 2nd floor food court. If they built this I could see myself going often for that open food court alone. And it's sad because I'm all the way from South San Jose.

  3. San Jose shouldn't embrace this development...what are the benefits for San Jose?

  4. Because it provides what San Jose - specifically downtown San Jose - does not and will not ever have: thriving retail, cool factor, international recognition/appreciation, and above all (for me) a place that has no general public perception of serious public safety issues.
This billion dollar development is a place where people will go and spend their money, and by the standards of any other major city its just up the street - 15/20 min on the train or driving.
Specifically for downtown San Jose, they can't shun this development like they did Santana Row or even Valley Fair for that matter, they must embrace and support this and treat it like the crucial step in the development of the South Bay that it is.
Embracing the NFL team that moved in next door along with a billion dollar development makes sense. Treating them like they are the enemy stealing our tax revenue is...the way we've always done it.

  5. I would strongly disagree that Downtown will not ever have thriving retail, cool factor, or international recognition. I think we'll have the first two within the next 5 years, and the 3rd in 10.

  6. These types of development are what continue to keep the San Jose downtown area from thriving. We see it already with Santana Row, imagine if that had been build downtown? I have seen these types of developments suck the life out of downtown areas and as for football stadiums, don't get me started. The biggest waste of tax payers dollars, maybe ever. Stupid.

With that said, I agree with Josh that we will see a revitalization of the downtown area in coming years as more high rises go up the demand for services will rise with them. I think it's an exciting opportunity for downtown San Jose and that's where I will choose to spend my money.

  7. Is this NSJ or Santa Clara? Seems like Santa Clara Development rather than a San Jose development..

    1. It's in Santa Clara on the boarder of North San Jose, close enough to be worth talking about since it may have a positive or negative effect on San Jose.

  8. Well I think what they are tryn to do is make san jose the house capitol of the usa. And santa clara push out all the low income into san jose and resale for rich people in Santa Clara. Waste of money with the stadium that only causes problem for residents there, and big brother raises taxes for them wether they like it or not. Government bullies. Horrible idea.

  9. LOL at any idiot who thinks this development will succeed!! This is NOT Santana Row. Santana Row is successful because there was already an existing anchor there (Valley Fair) along with established residential for it to compliment. Levis Stadium is NOT an anchor! Its a traffic cluster fuck generator and game days will be a disaster with this development. NFL off seasons will echo the sounds of crickets along West Tasman. There just isn't enough there to support something of this magnitude in empty North Santa Clara. This is not an urban area in north Santa Clara. People enjoy their cars. They want to conveniently go in and out of their sprawling office complex. This development is not consistent with that mentality. People, football stadiums are NOT anchors! They are wastes of space and resources, ESPECIALLY Levis stadium which is located in a location with HORRIBLE access. Now a sports arena, baseball park, THOSE are anchors. DTSJ/Santana Row have 0 to worry about. They are already established and will only grow bigger and better. They have a HUGE head start. This project has BUST written all over it. Knock your selves out San Clara

    1. I'm 100% positive the development will succeed, the question is how it will impact San Jose. After this project, another 1.5 million SQFT of retail and 7 million SQFT of housing and office are going to follow it, making it the largest retail anchor outside of Valley Fair/Santana Row in Silicon Valley. Access is plenty fine with 2 lightrail stops, a heavy rail station, multiple bus lines, and access to 3 freeways. There is a housing explosion in North San Jose and Milpitas, and not enough retail close-by. Also, this project would be right in the middle of the golden triangle, the largest tech cluster in the world. It will do just fine, I simply don't want to see San Jose suffer because of it.

  10. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A SKY-WALK STREET CROSSING LIKE IN LAS VEGAS. THIS WILL HELP TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND PEOPLE CAN MOVE EASILY AND SAFER. MAKE SURE TO PUT SUICIDE BARRICADE.
