Mercury News is moving back to downtown on Second St.. Sofa market is opening around August. The downtown office vacancy will be below 10% in 90 days with the leasing of second Riverpark tower(6 floors to expanding existing company downtown).
ReplyDeleteI hate to rain on the parade here, but I think you should discuss the closure and bankruptcy of the Rep Theatre (what a cultural tragedy for SJ) and, worse still, the impact of the closure on local businesses (I know some of the nicer restaurants really relied on the theatre crowd to help them stay afloat). What's your take? What's next for that part of Paseo?
ReplyDeleteThis is a huge loss. I don't have much information on this besides what was just published, this came as a surprise to me. I want to find out more before doing a post.
DeleteI'm hoping that someone like Nedelander (Broadway San Jose) will take over the space and continue utilizing it. In addition to theater, it may make a nice concert space as well. Heck, it could even be used as a movie theater (it has been a regular venue for Cinequest).
Thanks, Josh. I, too, wish that it would continue to be a cultural space, but who knows. The loss of a Rep is really a terrible loss for civic culture and downtown dynamism.
ReplyDeleteAnd like a gem, GNB's nuggets are once again proven correct :) Pan-Pacific Bank will be taking one floor of Riverpark II in October, with Xactly and Intacct to take 6 floors next year. FINALLY!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat news!!!
