Walmart Grocery Store Will Anchor Monterey Road Shopping Center

Yet another Walmart Neighborhood Market is coming to San Jose. This one will be a 50,000 SQFT anchor store at the new Sun Garden Center on Monterey Road. It is expected that it will open in Q4 of this year.

This location is near Spartan Stadium and the Plant Shopping Center. Sun Garden will also have space for a 44,576 anchor store and 4-5 smaller retail spots for restaurants or banks.

  2. More like, yawn... This is not news. A giant company opening another lame store in a large city that already has dozens of other locations. Meh.

  3. Well I'm pretty sure this is a big deal for this particular neighborhood, which has no full service grocery stores as well as a number of residents without cars. Yeah, its Walmart, but its not like we had grocery stores lined up and clamoring to open in this shopping center.

  4. Bad move. We really needed a grocery store like Lucky's or Safeway in this area. There is a Walmart not too far from here already. Hope this doesn't turn into another run down Walmart like all the others do, considering the neighborhood.

  5. Well i live in this neighborhood (GASP!) and i don't think we need a Walmart at this location to further congest the area with traffic when there is already another Walmart at Story Rd.. It totally baffles me why they didn't put a regular grocery store in at the Plant, they have plenty of room there and are able to handle the added traffic congestion.
