Slightly off topic Josh: I was downtown last Thursday for some Disney on Ice and spent some time at the SPS Market before the show. Awesome! The scene, crowd and vibe was on point. Don't know if this makes sense, but it actually felt exciting to be downtown. As someone stated over at skyscraper city, all we need to do is add an actual "market" to the Market and that part of downtown will be set.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how successful a full-blown "market" component would be, given that Veggie Box had to close (although this might be related to low occupancy and awareness of the Lusardi building at the time). We'll see some more of market elements in the next few months though as Bray (Bistro/Butcher Block) and Chocatoo (Chocolatier) join The Little Cheese Shoppe.
DeleteVeggie Box gave up about 4 weeks too soon. They would be doing really well right about now and would be killing it this summer with all of the new places open and up to speed.
DeleteJosh, any idea what's going into the building next to the SPS Market that used to be Sabor? There's been a liquor license notice outside for months but no activity.
ReplyDeleteKudos to San jose. I guess San Jose finally has a vibrant downtown to be proud of! Keep it up.
DeleteThe old Sabor space is going to be a new flagship restaurant and it's going to have a direct connection to the San Pedro Square Market (they are tearing down part of the wall). Don't have too much info, but can tell you that the owners already have a very successful restaurant in the Bay Area and this will be a similar concept.
DeleteJosh, you forgot to mention South First Friday.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Barely squeezed out the post, have been slammed lately. I managed to make it out for a couple hours to South First Friday and it was one of the best ones I have ever been to, and it is only March! A lot of new places are now participating.
