Greyhound Bus Lines Adds Express Service in San Jose

Greyhound's Express service has expanded into California and San Jose is one of just a few cities selected to have these new premium routes. The highlights of the new service are very few (if any) stops, guaranteed seating, free WiFi, power outlets for every seat (!), extra legroom, and leather seats. I'm not sure how this next part is possible, but trips start at $1.

The 3 Californian Greyhound Express routes are:

Los Angeles - San Jose - San Francisco
Los Angeles - Oakland - San Francisco
Los Angeles - Bakersfield - Fresno - Modesto - Stockton - Sacramento

"This expansion is a direct result of customer demand and our customers have shown us that they love the value and premium amenities Greyhound Express offers."

Customers can buy their Express ticket online to take advantage of discount pricing, print their ticket at home, or pick it up at a self-service ticketing kiosk, and know a guaranteed seat is waiting for them. Additionally, Express customers can relax in private waiting areas in select locations, protected from the weather, with a dedicated guest services specialist available to provide an extra level of customer assistance. 1. That bus station is one of the nastiest elements of downtown. Can't they run out of Diridon or something? It's an eyesore and frequent source of crime. And now there's a bus that cost $1. Great...

    1. Running them out of Diridon would be the best option for sure, especially after BART comes in. Then this giant space could also be re-purposed for development.

  2. that's great to know. surprised i didn't hear about it yet. maybe in response to Bundu Bus and CAShuttleBus.com.

They can sell the first ticket for $1. No biggie. Long-time marketing strategy of the East Coast 'chinatown buses' -- of which the west coast ones are just an extension of.

also buy tickets at 7-11? Hot. be nice if the city dropped some money on renovating the bus station. goodbye, Redev.

  3. Can they at least wipe the "Jerry curl" grease off the seats!

  4. My name is Mike Pentecost and I am the author of Bus People: 30 Days on the Road with America's Nomads.

In researching ways to try and "get the word out" about my book, I came across this blog post. I'm hoping that my book might be of interest to the readers of this blog.

    Here's the brief description:

In 1990, as a college freshman, I was madly in love with my high school girlfriend, although we attended different schools. I was in Lexington, KY at the University of Kentucky and she was at Wake Forest in Winston Salem, NC. I had no money and no car, but needed to see her. So, I scraped together enough money for a bus ticket. What should have been a 7 or 8 hour car ride turned into a 19 hour interminable bus adventure where I met Amish people, carnival workers and the town drunk. While my girlfriend dumped me before Halloween of our freshmen year, the memories of that bus trip stayed with me for the next two decades.

So, in 2010, when a career change afforded me a month of free time, I purchased a "discovery pass" for $439 that allowed me to spend 30 days traveling around the country on a Greyhound. What resulted is my book: Bus People. It is full of stories that are compelling. Some are funny and uplifting. Many are sad and depressing. I wrote the book with compassion and empathy, but also with brutal honesty. I gave comment on the way Greyhound treats its customers and tried to give a voice to a group of people who often live on the margins of society.

The link for the book on Amazon (it's available in paperback and Kindle formats) is here: http://www.amazon.com/Bus-People-Mike-Pentecost/dp/0985141506/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_t_1

It has received good press in the Chicago Tribune, the Tennessean, the Reno Gazette, the Richmond Times, the Sacramento Bee, the Naperville Sun and other papers around the country. It has also received interest from the radio program This American Life, although we've yet to come up with an exact fit for their show.

I'm attaching the review from the Chicago Tribune, but you can google me and find other articles if you'd like.

I look forward to hearing back from you and getting your thoughts.

    Regards,
    Mike Pentecost
