Chick-fil-A Officially Coming to San Jose! PART 2

I have some additional updates from an event today regarding the Chick-fil-A coming to @First on July 26th. It's going to be the first restaurant in San Jose to be LEED certified (extremely energy efficient). They also are already planning another restaurant this year in Walnut Creek and are shooting for 3-5 new Bay Area restaurants a year.

Lastly, they have an interesting event tied to the launch where 100 people will get a year's supply of Chick-fil-A.  Details below:

Chick-fil-A will celebrate the grand opening of the new San Jose restaurant by giving away a one-year supply of free Chick-fil-A meals (52 certificates) to the first 100 adults in line on opening day. The “First 100” celebration draws Chick-fil-A raving fans up to 24 hours in advance. They arrive with tents, air beds, TVs, lap top computers, gaming systems and other activities to pass the time while camping out overnight. Since the event began in October 2003, Chick-fil-A has given away more than $16 million in free food.
The new restaurant is one of 92 locations the chain plans to open across the country in 2012, creating nearly 7,000 new jobs. Despite the challenging economy, Chick-fil-A continued to grow in 2011, reporting record-setting annual sales of more than $4 billion, representing a 13 percent increase over 2010 and the 44th consecutive year of sales growth since the company began in 1967.
Chick-fil-A topped large chain category in Zagat’s 2011 National Fast Food Restaurant Survey that measured the opinions of 6,000 consumers covering 103 chains. With each chain being rated on its quality of food, service and facilities, the survey scored Chick-fil-A first in service and the chargrilled sandwich categories; and second in the areas of food, best drive-thru, most child friendly, and facilities. In 2011, Chick-fil-A also received Consumer Reports Top Chicken Chain for food and service.

    1. No, it's not awful for those of us that actually tried the food. It's closer to In-n-out then McDonalds as Joshua said. Yes, some food is bad for you. Especially fast food. But its all about moderation and being responsible adult. That means taking responsibility for your actions.

    2. Awesome, shorter lines for me. Its the IN N OUT of chicken.

    3. You don't know what you will be missing if you don't try Chick-fill-A. I grew up on Chick-fill-A sandwiches in the south and they are the best. I have always wanted and waited for Chick-fill-A to expand. They are a very family oriented company. Everyone that I know that work for Chick-fill-A loves working there.

  3. I've heard a lot of goods things about it and if you check out their yelp ratings, typically they're getting 4 or 4.5 out of 5 which is pretty impressive for quick food. I'm hoping for something at the quality level of In & Out, except for Chicken.

    1. Wow, you have pretty low expectations then! In and Out is the Rick Santorum of fast food.

  4. Do you live in San Jose? I'm thinking not because if you did you would know there are far more interesting and pressing issues and topics to discuss instead of back-to-back posts about processed chicken sandwiches?

    1. Oh, I definitely don't disagree... a ton is going on in San Jose right now and my time is pretty limited, I can't post about everything.

However, I know many people that are eagerly waiting for this Chick-fil-A. It may not seem like big news, but these two simple posts have had the highest first day readership in the history of the blog by far (more than double). So, that proves there is a lot of interest in the restaurant, whether you love it or hate it. I have yet to try it and I live very close, so I have high hopes that it is as good as I've heard.

    2. I am one of those people! Can you also give us and update on the Ohlone project on San Carlos?

Thanks for providing us with local news.

  5. 41 comments about fast food. I'm annoyed with myself for wasting my time on this.

  6. I've been watching your updates like a hawk. This is the chicken equivalent of In N Out - food quality is much higher than other chains.

My favorite thing about the Chick fil a's I've been to? Dining with little ones. The employees not only brought my tray to the table but also helped me bus. The Chick fil a's in AZ that I most recently went to, had infant/toddler table mats, washed and sanitized high chairs, hand sanitizing wipes, and Cheerios available to all to take. I can't find that kind of support at ANY other restaurant, let alone a fast food one.

  9. PRAISE JESUS! You West Coast folk don't understand how good Chick Fil A really is.

  10. This WestCoaster knows that Chick Fil-A is really good. I'm a Californian who has eaten at several restaurants on the East coast and one in SoCal. Can't wait for the SJ opening. It'll be a short drive down the 237. Woohoo.
