- Groundwerx is looking to improve services in Downtown San Jose when the PBID gets renewed. Specifically they are looking to:
- Improve safety using roving ambassadors, private security, and hiring off duty police officers
- Help retain and grow businesses by improving services to existing and new businesses interested in locating Downtown.
- The San Jose Redevelopment Agency has been dissolved and the city is assuming all assets and responsibilities.
- Dennis Fong has sold the landmark Prussia Building in SoFA at 371 S. First to AEDIS Architecture. The new owners are preparing the ground floor for retail and will use the upper floors for offices.
- The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services has launched a smartphone app that allows residents to send photos and reports of graffiti, litter, and park conditions (Groundwerx has something similar for Downtown).
- Chacho's Restaruant is back home in Downtown San Jose at 87 E. San Fernando [Josh: try their mole enchiladas, phenomenal]
- The Studio is a new Touchstone rock climbing club at 396 S. First that is just about to open in a heavily modified version of the former Wet nightclub building.

February 2012 Downtown Dimension Highlights
Here are my notes from the latest edition of Downtown Dimension:
If there was ever a diamond in the rough downtown, its SoFa. That area should be littered with trendy boutiques and cafes. So much potential.
ReplyDeleteyea seriously, that street should be bustling. its pretty dead right now.
ReplyDeleteIt's typical San Jose!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of bustling: was at Santana Row yesterday for an early dinner (Yard House, awesome!). I always ask myself when I'm down there; why can't this be downtown San Jose? Especially SoFa and perhaps the San Pedro areas. Will it ever?
ReplyDeleteI believe so, and I think the first spot will be San Pedro Square. I would love to see SoFA get there some time soon as well, but I think it will take longer. Next warm weekend day, instead of heading to Santana Row try sitting out in the San Pedro Square Market courtyard. The food is just as good as anything at Santana Row, is made by local businesses, and is half the price. The ambiance will get there as well by the end of the summer. They're doing a great job and I think you'll have something to be proud of very soon.
DeleteThanks Josh, I'll definitely check it out.
Deletei'm super hopeful about the market but i feel until its firing on all cylinders im skeptical. the progress seems painfully slow, esp on the big hall.
