It seems that the person that purchased Popeye's downtown lost their franchise license, so they are transitioning to "The Original Southern Fried Chicken."
Went there today, it sucked. They only had mild chicken and they ran out of white meat. What type of Chicken place runs out of chicken? It was also very dirty.
On a side note, this blog is getting very superficial, trying to figure out why I still check it anymore. Come on folks, step it up, and really tell us about San Jose, not just this lame post or cutting and pasting from someone else's news...
Sorry George, I really don't have the time for many in depth posts anymore. If you notice, there are no ads anywhere on the blog, this is a hobby and was not designed to be a primary source for all news related to San Jose.
I mean, yeah. I appreciate this blog a a resource to know what's happening in San Jose, but there's no real dialogue about what's lame and frustrating about San Jose or how to fix those things. The constant positive spin is fine and all, but the city isn't going to improve without a realistic assessment of where we're at and what people want. Sights are set so low here that the city just seems stuck on its own inferiority.
I understand where you're coming from. No one wants to read propaganda. But our city's shortcomings are well understood and constantly reiterated. What Josh is doing is asking people to step back and realize that while we have a long way to go, we're not a complete mess. If enough people start to believe that, we could see some real progress.
went there today and the chicken was okay (tasted homemade- which is a good thing) but the wait was super long. One guy taking money other guy talking on the phone to "Lucia" who is in his words is a "fucking bitch" ... no one serving customers. No bags- place smelled disgusting (I think it was all of the homeless people in there) and it was filthy- if they don't have roaches already- they will soon. Trash all over the floor, chicken bones outside on the ground in front... etc. Saddest thing is I'll go back again when they have leg AND thigh for only $0.99- I guess you get what you pay for.
The writing was on the wall for this location. I went there a few times while it was a Popeye's and received mediocre service and decent product. Mediocre and decent won't cut it anywhere. I went recently after they changed the name and it was a sad sight to see (and taste). I love fried chicken and will continue to make bomb ass chicken at home for my family and friends and pray for the day when downtown will have a true chicken joint!
Um, seriously?

ReplyDeleteI really appreciate this blog. If anyone doesn't like it, sure you can whine, or better yet, you can create your own.

ReplyDeleteIf anyone wants to submit an article about things that they don't like about San Jose so we can discuss, I would be happy to post it.
ReplyDeleteKevin,

Is there a good place in SJ to get chicken and waffles?
ReplyDeleteThere sure is: House of Soul Food (http://www.houseofsoulfood.net/)

ReplyDeleteWay back before it was a national chain, the original Popeye's in New Orleans was nasty.
ReplyDeleteI wish the new owner luck. And better recipes.
