Mt. Umunhum Access Coming in 2012

A mountain peak in South San Jose that use to house the Almaden Air Force Station will be open for limited public access starting in 2012. A few years later in 2016, it should be fully open to the public who can come an enjoy panoramic views of Silicon Valley and the Monterey Bay. Check out the videos below for more information:

  2. Josh,
It's not my original idea, but it would be cool if one day an aerial tram (similar to the lifts at ski resorts in the Sierra) could be built from the base of Mt. Um to the peak. The ride and view would be awesome, and it would save a lot of motorist the long drive to the top. Peaks in Albaquerque NM (Sandia Peak) and in SoCal (Palm Springs) are serviced by such tramways.

  3. Wow, I thought I was the only one to have crazy dreams like that. For years I've wished we had a "ski lift" to Lick Observatory. It would save an hour drive and open the area to many more visitors. Mt. Um I hear has even better views so I am completely down with that idea.

  4. Go and read the Open Space District's "mission statement" and you'll quickly realize that an aerial tram would never happen. Pipe dreams.
