Downtown San Jose Restaurant List!!!

For a long time I have been meaning to put together a list of ALL downtown San Jose restaurants (I've always been curious as to the exact count of how many we have). The SJ Downtown Association has a pretty comprehensive list, but it has limitations since there are no filtering or sorting capabilities besides genre. So I went ahead and put together my own online spreadsheet that anyone can use!

I used to tell people that Downtown San Jose has over 100 restaurant. That simply isn't true. We have 177 restaurants and cafes downtown (!!!). I thought I had been to almost every one. It turns out that I have "only" been to 125 of them... I have 52 more to go.

The spreadsheet lists each restaurant name along with:
  • Genre - my categories are a little different than the SJDA list to avoid duplicates
  • Region - tried to divide downtown into corridors and districts (like SoFA) since the street addresses aren't always indicative of where the restaurant is
  • Address & Phone Number
  • Website - work in progress
  • Year - also work in progress, if you know which year any of the restaurants opened, please feel free to email me
  • Additional Notes
  • A Column to track the ones I've been to
All of the columns are sortable and filterable, and if you take a look at the bottom of the spreadsheet you'll notice there is also a tab called "Restaurant Statistics." This is a live count of the total number of restaurants downtown, as well as statistics by region, genre, and year opened.

I think this spreadsheet turned out really well, so please have a look and let me know what you think. Thanks!

  1. LOL two of the places you haven't been to are Subways. I think those are exempt! Teske's and Trials are two of my favorite spots. If you go to Trials, have the curry fries with the sauce on the side :D :D :D

  3. This list is perfect timing. I'm going to Christmas in the Park this year and I want somewhere fun to eat. It's been a while since I've lived here so this is helpful. Thanks!

  4. Josh, with a little work I bet you could push that number to 250 at least: Punjab Cafe, City Restaurant, Tofoo Com Chay, Tacqueria San Jose, New Tung Kee Noodle, Onyx Restaurant, Vegetarian House, Com Ga Nam An, Vung Tau, and Nick's Pizza gives you 10 more off the top of my head for Santa Clara Street alone.

  5. Anonymous #1: I know, but I feel like I'm cheating if I don't go to every single one. I'm saving Trials for after I get most of the "Subways" out of the way.

Anonymous #2: I've been dying to Freshly Baked Eatery for a long time! The problem is they are only open M-F during lunch hours... I'm going to have to get creative to hit those M-F spots.

Matt: You're so right, I had a debate over the weekend on how far to extend Downtown. Putting the Market Center restaurants there was already controversial =). Since I have the Garage in there I think I'm going to have to go down all the way to 11th street and add the ones you mentioned. If I missed any in the Downtown core, definitely let me know and I'll add them right away.

  8. I'll second the "subway?! eww." Just 2 more and I'll never go to subway again... unless of course they decide to open another Downtown.
